A Well-Curated Closet
Have you ever thoughtfully chosen clothing that aligns with your personal style, tastes and lifestyle? Having high-quality, versatile pieces allows you to own less, but spend a little bit more on each piece.
The goal of curating a closet is to have a collection of clothing that is versatile, well made, and suitable for several types of occasions. A well-curated closet is a collection of carefully selected items. It’s organized and maintained to reflect the personal style, preferences and lifestyle of the individual.
A closet that has been curated is:
Versatile – pieces that can easily be mixed and matched to created multiple outfit possibilities. These pieces are basics and classic items that withstand ever changing clothing trends. Some refer to these essentials as a ‘capsule’ wardrobe. Items may include a black cashmere sweater, white button down, trench coat, little black dress, wide leg trousers, a tailored blazer, staple jeans and a white t-shirt (to name just a few!)
Reflects Personal Style - Curating a closet means reflecting in the personal taste and style of the individual. It should make you feel confident and comfortable and represent your true fashion sense.
High Quality vs High Quantity – Abundance is not essential with this closet philosophy. The focus is on high-quality items that are well made. These items may cost a bit more, but they will be sustainable and last a very long time.
Influenced by the Seasons – Some items may be rotated to ensure appropriateness and comfort. You are less likely to wear linen in the winter or wool in the summer.
Functional – Be sure your clothing choices meet your needs and lifestyle. You should never feel uncomfortable in your clothing and it should be appropriate for your work, social occasions, hobbies and activities.
A Collection of Timeless Pieces with Some Trends – Most items in your closet should be classis, timeless pieces. Adding a few fun, trendy items that you love will keep your wardrobe fresh and stylish without breaking the bank on pieces that will be ‘so last season’ in the blink of an eye.
Well Maintained – It can be very hard to let go of items you invested in and/or you love. That said, if a piece of clothing is torn, stained, no longer fits, has piling or you haven’t worn it in over a year, it’s time to say ‘good bye.’
Well Organized - A well-curated closet is organized and free of clutter. When you have visibility on all your pieces, it’s easier to put items together and plan outfits. You may organize as you see fit. Some options are to organize by color, category or season..
A well-curated closet is not a ‘one size fit all’ list of clothing. It is subjective as it varies for each individual’s style preferences and needs. Curating your closet should be fun! Think about what makes you feel comfortable, confident and reflects your own unique style.
I hope I have given you a little inspiration to look inside your closet and see what works, get inspired to take away what doesn’t and start playing around to find new combinations of items that can make a fun new outfit option! Do you need a little help? Feel free to send TSC an email. We’re happy to help give ideas and curate some staple pieces that may give you some extra inspiration to start looking at your clothing as an extension of you and elevate your wardrobe, too!
Have some fun re-vamping your wardrobe or curating new outfits from pieces you already have but never thought about putting together. Celebrate your unique sense of style!
